Showcase Identity

Along with a group of my fellow graduates, we designed the identity, catalogue, website, and show reel for our graduate showcase. The identity for our showcase encapsulated the students’ favourite things that helped us to get through our degree. We came up with a digital and retro theme, which included a set of 16 bit icons, each one based what helped us through. We worked as a team, divided up into smaller groups for each aspect. I worked on the showcase website, and as a project manager, and also provided help and feedback for the other smaller teams. The catalogue gives each student a double page spread about any of their university projects, and the website links to each student’s own portfolio website.

My role as a project manager included things like, chasing students for the images of their work, helping with feedback, keeping people on schedule, and bridging the gap between our lecturers and students. I was also the main designer for the website. On the website, I gave each student a single square thumb nail of a piece of their work, which then links to their portfolio website. We have 32 students on our website, so I had the initial task of adding the images, and linking each one. I wanted to keep the icons as a big part of the website, so I added a short motion graphic made by the show reel team as a banner. In this graphic the icons change colours. I was required to make the website using Google Sites, which is quite limited in design capabilities, but I used it to the best of my abilities. Working in this team was a really valuable experience for me, I learned a lot, like how to navigate time scale, other people’s ideas, and how to find the best outcome for everyone.
