All Things LGBTQ+

The purpose of this module was for us to explore the cultural position, social and ethical responsibilities of Graphic Design. We analysed our role, it’s place within current society an culture, and explored our own personal ethical morals when it comes to being a designer. During this module, we looked at the news and current affairs, as well as societal talking points and debates. We were told to think about our own moral codes, which are things like, how sustainable do we want our work to be? Do we have lines that we won’t cross within design? For example, working for certain people or companies, or using certain technologies like AI.

I focused my project on the LGBTQ+ community, and ways in which they can be helped to feel more comfortable and supported in their lives. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, this was hugely important to me, and I really enjoyed working on this module. I created the concept for a website, called All Things LGBTQ+, which aimed to help LGBTQ+ people, and their loved ones. The website covered things like education, advice, and support. There were sections on the website with commonly asked questions and their answers, for family members of people who have recently come out. I used Figma to design the website, and Illustrator for the logo and business cards that went alongside.
